After reading the fourth book in the Ali Reynold Series, I had to return to this character's roots in the first book of the series, "Edge of Evil". In this book, Ali's whole life falls apart-both professional and personal-and she returns home when her best friend from high school reportedly commits suicide. Of course, the facts don't add up for Ali, and she investigates the details on her own after the local police buy the suicide line. She encounters a homicidal maniac along the way, and after only a few days out from the ER/hospital from that ordeal, she is nearly killed by her friend's murderer. Case solved.
