Smash Cut by Sandra Brown

Quintessential Sandra Brown, this book goes to great lengths to pull the rug out form under the readers every few chapters, making us review everything in this new light.Brown does this with a short sentence, and one rarely sees the literary sleight of hand coming.
The lives of an attorney with a conscience, a beautiful art gallery owner, a wealthy family, and a beloved chocolate Labrador all converge when a violent robbery/murder on an elevator. the ensuing investigation seems to bring everyone together . . . but their meetings and dealings are not as they seem. Much of what appears spontaneous and accidental is actually well planned, cunning, and sometimes downright illegal!
Interestingly, mention of wristwatches kept popping up, three in the first 100 pages. Curious, I checked publication date to find Smash Cut was published in 2009. Funny how in just a few years wristwatches are less common and many refer to phones to check the time now. -Micki K.
